Pacific Beach and Mission Bay

The history on the area dates back to the late 1800s. The Pacific Beach Company began offering lots in 1887, the same year as the surrounding towns of Ocean Beach and La Jolla began their existence. The town’s colorful history included a brief tenure as the “Lemon Capitol of the World” and at one time was home to the San Diego Army-Navy Academy -- the “West Point of the West.”

Local annual events in and around Pacific Beach include the Beach Fest, Over-the-Line Tournament, PB Restaurant Walks, Block Party and Street Faire and Holiday Parade.

Pacific Beach residents have easy access to all the cultural activities that San Diego has to offer. Just a few minutes from Pacific Beach is Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the United States. The park features 15 museums, several art galleries, an award-winning restaurant, stunning gardens and Old Globe Theater. San Diego County is home to more than 30 museums, several theatres, an orchestra and many other cultural activities. There are 92 golf courses and top professional football and baseball teams.

Pacific Beach is about 10 minutes from the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Downtown. Downtown San Diego is a shopper’s paradise while the Gas Lamp Quarter and Little Italy offer sidewalk cafes, open air restaurants, jazz clubs, dancing and micro breweries. There are also unique shops and galleries throughout the district.
